The Music Ministry provides music for worship at weekly, holiday, and holy day Masses.  Hymns, songs, and psalms of every musical style are sung with our congregation, choirs, and instrumentalists.  The Music Ministry also provides music at funerals, weddings, concerts, and for special prayer services throughout the year.

What is your profession (outside of being a cantor)? Professional musician

How long have you been cantoring (in total, not just Little Flower)? 10 years

What is your favorite hymn to sing and why? How Great Thou Art; the music and lyrics led well to singing as well as conveying the meaning of the hymn’s title.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while singing? When I sang opera in undergrad, a prop malfunctioned and I turned it into a moment that made the audience crack up.

What music do you listen to when you're not singing at church? A huge mix of different things. I can jump from yacht rock to opera to salsa to video game music in a single listening session!  My favorite musicians are Billy Joel & Stevie Wonder, and my favorite bands are The Doors, Steely Dan, and Earth, Wind, and Fire.

It is always hilarious when we have the children come up to the altar as a part of the homily. They always have funny things to share.

What is your profession (outside of being a cantor)? I retired from teaching elementary school in June. I now work part time as a Bookkeeper/Accounts Payable Clerk.

How long have you been cantoring (in total, not just Little Flower)? I’ve been a cantor for over 30 years and a choir member even longer than that!

What is your favorite hymn to sing and why? I have so many favorites I can’t pin just one down. I have very eclectic musical tastes. I love singing everything from traditional hymns to Gospel Spirituals to Contemporary Christian music. Whatever the Holy Spirit calls me to sing, I’m happy to sing. There is always going to at least one person who needs to hear a  particular piece.

What is the funniest thing that has ever happened to you while singing? I don’t know if this was so funny, but one funeral I had years ago I had to sing Psalm 23. The accompanist started playing a different setting than what we were supposed to sing. Thank God I knew that setting and had to sing it by heart. There might have been some new words to Psalm 23!

What music do you listen to when you're not singing at church? All different genres- Contemporary Christian, Pop, Classic Rock, Broadway Tunes, Country- I love them all!

Lightning Round:

Coffee or Tea? 100%Tea I gave up coffee 5 years ago.
Organ or Piano? Piano
Sunrise or Sunset? Sunrise
Takeout or Home Cooking? Home Cooking- I love to cook.
Reading or TV/Movies? Reading, I’m not a big TV person.
Christmas or Easter? Easter is my favorite.
